New Patio & Walkway in Pooler
Our first step with any hardscaping project is to help create the dream outcome for our clients. In the case of this homeowner, they had an existing living space into which they wanted to tie a walkway that stretched out to an outdoor seating area around a fire pit.
Below are the steps we take to help designs come to life with our complete design and installation process. To learn more about how we can help you with designing your outdoor living space, you can reach out here:
Phase 1: Discovery, Design & Vision

The first step is helping clients put their vision on paper. Our process starts with a consultation to gather insights and ideas. This discovery phase is essential for helping set proper budget expectations, reviewing material possibilities, and exploring numerous options, from fire pits to outdoor pergolas.
In this project, the homeowners wanted to create a space along the outer edge of their property, away from their home, where they could place a hammock and create a shady escape. With their home backing up to a pond and some mature trees, the fire pit and circular patio they envisioned would be perfect for hosting or enjoying the company of their family.
After conducting our discovery process and gathering their thoughts, helping identify paver patio styles, colors, materials, and options, our design team created multiple renderings to present to the Savannah Quarters homeowner. The image above is ultimately the design rendering the homeowner fell in love with!
Phase 2: Hardscaping Site Preparation
Unlike small landscaping projects, the site preparation behind hardscaping is very labor-intensive but requires much planning. The first step is setting installation dates based on material availability. Once materials have been ordered and a target date is set, a full prewalkthrough of the site is required to account for sprinklers and potential hazards. We also request that utility lines be marked before a shovel enters the ground.
From the planning stage, prepping the area starts with outlining where the walkway will go using the design renderings. Properly preparing the base where pavers are installed and ensuring the ground is ready for hardscaping is an intensive process that requires the assistance of mini-excavators and manpower. In this case, since the walkway stretched along the side of the home, we had to ensure safety measures and delicacy were at the forefront of all workers.
Phase 3: Paver & Landscaping Installation

After preparing the area to install any patio, walkway, or fire pit, laying pavers is fun to watch! There is a technique that the hardscape install team at Coastal Hardscapes utilizes to ensure each brick is placed correctly. This includes the proper slope, leveling, and consistent patterns to create the best patio outcome. In this case, the pattern of choice was similar to a “Holland Combination.”
Accounting for the circular patio and fire pit required precision planning and execution to ensure the patio looked symmetrical from any vantage point. As you can see in the photos, the patio and accompanying walkway turned out amazing.
Phase 4: Final Touches

The final touches may seem insignificant, but they always help the projects pop and remain functional for years to come! In the case of this new walkway, the areas around the hardscaping were outfitted with sod where the construction took place. Additionally, sprinklers were checked for zone and functionality. Lastly, a walk-through with the client and a final inspection of any plants is conducted to ensure everything is in working order.
This is an essential final step in all projects because inevitably, with large-scale hardscape installations, small instances may occur. One plant was not adjusting well, so we had to replace it for the homeowner. Overall, the homeowners were super pleased with the outcome of their new outdoor living space and were excited to enjoy it just in time for Memorial Day Weekend!
