Are you looking to see a new patio project in Savannah Quarters?
Here at Coastal Hardscapes of Georgia, we take the time to highlight our projects, and we know that creating a perfect outdoor retreat is no small feat, especially when starting with a space that has seen better days. We faced this challenge during a recent patio and deck remodel in Savannah Quarters, Pooler, GA.
As you can see in the photos, the original deck was faded, had broken boards, and needed to be replaced entirely. Upon further inspection, the previous homeowner had added a deck to a deck, causing structural integrity issues and replacing the area with a patio!
Please keep reading to see how we transformed a structurally compromised deck into a stunning and functional outdoor living area in the prestigious Savannah Quarters neighborhood.
New Patio and Deck in Pooler, GA Project Highlights
The Coastal Hardscapes team will walk you through the exact step-by-step process we took to match this beautiful home with a beautiful outdoor living area!
Before: Replacing the Old Deck
The existing deck, roughly 10 years old, showed its age due to improper construction practices. While the rafters and headers were made from pressure-treated lumber, the deck boards and other components were not. With the harsh sun beating down and Savannah summer storms, this oversight led to significant structural issues and a no longer safe or appealing deck.
Adding to this project’s complexity was the hot tub, which required careful handling during the remodel of the deck boards. There were two decks (like a deck addition), and we removed the original middle portion while keeping the headers and rafters around the hot tub.
What We Did
As you can see in the photo above, we completely rejuvenated this outdoor deck in Savannah Quarters by removing all the old decking boards and adding a 3-piece Cobblestone Top patio. To bring this outdoor space back to life, we implemented the following steps:
- Removal of the Old Deck: Over half of the deck, including all the deck rails and boards, was removed.
- Paver Patio Installation: We installed a beautiful paver patio in place of the removed deck. To achieve this, we built a one-foot-high retaining wall to elevate the patio off the ground, ensuring a seamless transition from the deck to the patio. The patio material (we elaborate below) featured a pillow top style with a 3-piece configuration (see our Paver Guide here).
- Functional Upgrades: In addition to the patio, we redirected a gutter into a gravel pit beneath the deck to improve drainage and prevent water-related damage. Since Pooler and Savanna is a low-lying area, this is essential when adding outdoor patios. Additionally, we installed a new receptacle connector on the side of the house for added convenience.
Paver & Deck Material Selections
One of the best parts about adding a new patio or outdoor living area to your home is picking out the materials and styles for your latest project! Below, we highlight the material selections for his project!
Pavers and Retaining Wall:
- We used Low Country Cobble pavers from the Coastal Colors Collection in the Caligny color. This cream, brown, and charcoal blend adds warmth and sophistication. For the retaining wall, we opted for Stonewall 2 blocks in the same Caligny color for a cohesive look.
Decking and Railings:
- The deck features Azek Vintage Decking in the Coastline color, a composite material known for its durability and modern aesthetic.
- Composite railings were installed around the deck, combining safety, style, and low-maintenance longevity.
Overall, the material selection matched the home perfectly, by giving the house added curb appeal by creating contrasting colors with the patio and deck!
Unique Outdoor Living Features
Last but not least, in addition to the massive patio, we installed and refurbished the existing deck area around the hot tub; we were able to help this homeowner in Savannah Quarters with a few extra special features!
- Wide Center Stairs: Four-foot-wide stairs provide a smooth transition between the deck and the patio. This striking centerpiece is as functional as it is inviting.
- Dual-Function Design: The deck height serves a dual purpose: users can walk down into the patio for entertaining and relaxation or step up onto the deck to enjoy sunbathing and the hot tub.
- Composite Railings: Surrounding the deck, the railings offer a sturdy barrier without compromising the aesthetic appeal. This is a popular trend and these railings will last much longer than the old wooden railings!
- Enhanced Functionality: The new layout maximizes seating space and versatility, making the area perfect for everything from intimate gatherings to larger social events.
The Finished Product
We might be biased, but the transformation is nothing short of stunning. The seamless blend of materials, colors, and functional upgrades has turned this space in Savannah Quarters along the golf course into a true outdoor oasis.
Whether enjoying a quiet morning coffee on the deck or hosting an evening barbecue on the patio, this remodel offers endless opportunities to make lasting memories for this client. Are you dreaming of your own outdoor transformation? Contact us to discuss your vision and let’s bring it to life!
