Behind this home in The Highlands at Godley Station, the homeowners had a screened-in porch and backyard with great potential, but the space needed better drainage, a more usable patio area, and a finished structure that made the backyard feel more complete. Before focusing on the patio extension and pergola, we first addressed one of the most important parts of the project: moving water away from the home properly.
Here at Coastal Hardscapes, we extended the existing downspouts from the screened porch and rerouted them underground using properly sloped trenches to carry water farther out into the yard. This helped protect the new concrete work, reduce standing water near the porch, and give the homeowners a cleaner, more functional backyard after heavy coastal Georgia rain.
Once the drainage was handled, we extended the existing concrete slab so the patio fully wrapped around and encompassed the screened porch area. This gave the homeowners much more room for grilling, seating, outdoor dining, and everyday use. Instead of having a small disconnected slab, the backyard now feels open, intentional, and much easier to enjoy.
To complete the transformation, we added a custom wooden pergola structure over the extended patio area. The pergola gives the backyard architectural character, creates a defined outdoor living space, and adds the kind of warm, inviting feel that makes the patio look like a natural extension of the home.
